Concrete Cutting and Core Hole Drilling 2.0

Scan before you core. At Concrete Scanning Services, we use ground penetrating radar to identify electrical conduits, post-tension cables, rebar, and other hazards before your team cuts, cores or drills.

With a distinct, client-centric approach, your core drilling job will be safely completed on time and within budget.

Our technicians are highly skilled at working in a variety of areas and conditions, including those with limited access or confined spaces.

Concrete Scanning Services offers a complete solution. We scan your concrete with GPR to identify all subsurface hazards, mark them precisely on your slab, and then partner with trusted contractors for cutting, coring and drilling.

From safety checks prior to coring through final documentation, we handle the entire project for you. This means you’ll be dealing with one professional team, saving you time and additional costs; it also eliminates the challenge of having to communicate your project requirements to multiple companies.

What We Scan For Before Cutting & Coring

Our ground penetrating radar technology accurately identifies all subsurface hazards before your team cuts or cores. Here’s what we can locate and mark on your slab:

Rebar Locating

Locate reinforcing steel to prevent structural damage and costly repairs.

Post-Tension Cable Mapping

Identify post-tension cables before drilling to avoid expensive repairs and safety hazards.

Electrical Conduit Identification

Prevent electrical strikes that can shut down your job site. We can accurately mark and map conduits and/or cables and make recommendations on where it's safe to cut or core.

Concrete Thickness & Cover

Determine slab thickness and concrete cover depth for structural engineers and contractors.

Utility Service Location

Accurately identify water and gas pipes, as well as other sub-surface utilities buried underground or embedded within concrete slabs.

Void & Cavity Detection

Locate voids and structural anomalies that could affect cutting or coring operations.

Our Equipment

We use industry-leading technology to deliver accurate, reliable results every time.

Mala GPR Scanner

Advanced ground penetrating radar equipment with 400-6000 MHz frequency range. Detects a wide range of subsurface objects with precision depth measurement.

Electromagnetic (EM) Locating

Our range of Radiodetection cable and pipe precision locators can accurately detect active and passive power and radio signals both underground and within services embedded in concrete structures.

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) for slab scanning Sydney

Site Markings & Reporting

Findings are clearly marked up on site using comprehensive colour coded markings. Detailed reports are emailed directly from the site, identifying hazard locations and safe zones for cutting or coring to ensure your team can proceed with confidence.

Case Study

Concrete Scanning for: Post-Tension Cable Location – Safe Slab Penetration

A Sydney construction company needed to cut a 4m x 5m penetration in a suspended slab for a new escalator installation. Without accurate detection of post-tension cables, cutting through them would be dangerous for the operator and could compromise the entire structure’s integrity.

Other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

RESULT

Accurate ground penetrating radar scanning allowed the construction company to safely identify and mark all post-tension cables before slab penetration.

Ask

Detect and mark post-tension cables in a 4m x 5m suspended slab penetration area before cutting for a new escalator opening.

Problem

Post-tension cables are under tremendous tension and embedded throughout the concrete slab.

Solutions

Our GPR concrete imaging technology identified the unique properties of post-tension cables embedded in the slab. We scanned the proposed penetration area and detected 3 x 4 perpendicular PT cables at 1400mm spacing.

The client could then safely truncate the PT cables and proceed with cutting the slab for the new escalator opening without risk.
