Concrete Scanning 2.0

The core of what we do

Concrete scanning is at the core of our business. Our mission is to provide engineers, builders and contractors with accurate and well-interpreted subsurface data, so they can make well informed decisions about their project. This allows these professionals to ensure the safety of structures, assets and personnel.

Why our clients choose us

The team at Concrete Scanning Services use industry leading Mala GPR equipment to accurately and effectively perform concrete investigations and evaluations. Here’s why our clients choose to work with us:

We have varied experience in simple, ranging to extremely complex applications, and are trained in the use of market leading GPR equipment.

We offer a complete package of concrete scanning, structural certification and concrete coring, saving our clients time, money and hassle of needing to appoint and manage multiple contractors.

Also available are Structural Engineering services such as the review, approval and certification of proposed works, and related services.

Why conduct concrete scanning?

Cutting, coring and drilling of concrete structures requires great caution; hidden features in these structures can cause damage to machinery or the structure itself. Worse still, they can cause harm to the machinery operator.

Construction professionals require a safe and reliable means of inspecting work areas to locate and identify hidden features… That’s where we come in.

What is GPR and why is it important?

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a non-destructive and non-intrusive method of surveying that can be carried out quickly and efficiently, without causing any delays in construction or interrupting other tradespeople onsite. It is the most cost effective sub-surface investigation method available.

GPR technology replaced concrete x-ray technology, as it delivers faster results, is safe to use in public spaces and and provides clearer 2D projections than concrete x-ray technology. GPR produces images in real time for the concrete scanner technician to analyse onsite; whereas the x-ray has to be taken away and the data reviewed. GPR is safer and more efficient, suitable for scanning larger areas.

Concrete Scanning Services uses GPR technology because we are committed to providing safe, reliable and efficient services that save our clients time and money.

Using GPR, we scan for and identify

How are the findings presented?

Concrete Scanning Services offer clear and concise reporting of all survey results. Depending on the client’s reporting requirements we can offer either a site mark-up or we can present the investigation results by submitting a comprehensive and detailed user friendly report including analysis of the findings, that can be easily interpreted and understood.

We can also offer the service of producing or updating CAD drawings, which can be supplied in hard or soft copies.

If required, we have the ability to create a 3D picture of the subsurface by collecting a number of perpendicular scans, a ‘top down’ and cross sectional view of the area can be presented. This allows us to look down ‘through’ the slab and identify features and objects at different depths which run in different directions.

Deliverable

Concrete Scanning Services offer clear and concise reporting of all survey results tailored to your project needs. Depending on your requirements, we provide:

Site Markings

All findings marked directly on your concrete with precise depth and location information so your team knows exactly where subsurface features are located.

Comprehensive Reports

Detailed user-friendly reports including analysis of findings, depth measurements, and professional interpretation of all subsurface data.

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) for slab scanning Sydney

CAD Drawings

2D and 3D technical drawings showing the location of rebar, post-tension cables, electrical conduits, and other features. Perfect for planning and design purposes.

3D Concrete Imaging

Advanced 3D scanning and visualization of your concrete structure. We collect perpendicular scans to create a ‘top down’ and cross-sectional view, allowing us to identify features at different depths running in different directions.

Digital Records

Secure digital copies of all scanning data and reports for your project files, future reference, and easy sharing with your team.

Using GPR, We Scan For and Identify

Our ground penetrating radar technology locates all subsurface features in concrete structures. Here’s what we identify and map for you:

Rebar & Reinforcing Steel

Locate reinforcing steel to prevent structural damage and costly repairs during cutting or coring operations.

Post-Tension Cables

Identify post-tension cable ducts before drilling. A severed cable can cost thousands to repair and create serious safety hazards.

Electrical Conduits & Telco/Data

Prevent electrical strikes that can shut down your job site. We accurately mark services so your team knows where it’s safe to work.

Concrete Thickness & Cover Depth

Determine slab thickness and concrete cover measurements for structural engineers and contractors planning future works.

Water, Gas & Utilities

Identify buried services within or under concrete structures and slabs to prevent project disruptions and safety incidents.

Voids, Honeycombing & Structural Anomalies

Locate voids and concrete defects that could affect structural integrity or cutting and coring operations.

Concrete Imaging & Reporting

Provide comprehensive 2D & 3D scanning of concrete structures with detailed analysis and clear visual representations of subsurface conditions.

Case Study

Concrete Scanning for: Post-Tension Cable Location – Safe Slab Penetration

A Sydney construction company needed to cut a 4m x 5m penetration in a suspended slab for a new escalator installation. Without accurate detection of post-tension cables, cutting through them would be dangerous for the operator and could compromise the entire structure’s integrity.

RESULT

Accurate ground penetrating radar scanning allowed the construction company to safely identify and mark all post-tension cables before slab penetration.

3D Concrete Imaging

Advanced 3D scanning and visualization of your concrete structure. We collect perpendicular scans to create a ‘top down’ and cross-sectional view, allowing us to identify features at different depths running in different directions.
